Piazzale Roma

Piazzale Roma is the principal road access and transport hub on the western edge of Venice’s historic island, where buses, cars and taxis terminate. It functions as the main landward gateway for visitors arriving by road.

The square contains bus and coach terminals, multi-storey parking garages and taxi stands, and is linked by bridges and pedestrian routes to the rest of the city. Water transport services for the Grand Canal and vaporetto lines operate nearby, making the area a key interchange zone.

The area was developed in the 20th century to accommodate motorised traffic and parking on the island and has since remained the principal vehicular terminus and logistics point for arrivals and departures.

Piazzale Roma sits at the western end of Venice’s island, immediately adjacent to Venice Santa Lucia railway station and the Grand Canal; it is the last point reachable by private vehicle before the pedestrian-only historic centre.
