Piazza della Repubblica in Florence is a central, rectangular square in the city’s historic core that marks the site of the ancient Roman forum. The square is notable for its late 19th-century arcades and central monument.

The piazza functions as a busy urban hub with cafes, shops, and an open area that hosts a historic carousel and street activity. It links key pedestrian routes between the cathedral area, the Mercato Centrale, and the main shopping streets.

Built over the site of Florence’s Roman forum, the square was substantially reworked during the city’s late 19th-century redevelopment when Florence briefly served as Italy’s capital. The present layout and many of the surrounding buildings date to that period.

Situated in Florence’s historic centre, Piazza della Repubblica sits between the Duomo complex and the Mercato Centrale, within easy walking distance of the cathedral and main museums.
