How to Get to Philipsburg, Sint Maarten

Philipsburg sits on the Dutch side of Saint Martin and is closest to Princess Juliana International (SXM), a short taxi or shuttle ride away. The island has no rail services; shared minibuses and taxis provide the main local transport.

By Air

Princess Juliana International (SXM): SXM is the main airport for Sint Maarten and the closest airport to Philipsburg (about 2-5 km). From SXM it’s a short taxi ride (10-15 minutes) into Philipsburg - expect fares around US$10-20. Shuttle options and hotel transfers are also common.

Grand Case (SFG) / L’Espérance: The French-side Grand Case airport (SFG) handles some regional flights; from Grand Case take a taxi or shuttle across the island to Philipsburg (c. 20-30 minutes, fares higher than from SXM).

By Train & Bus

Train: There are no train services on Sint Maarten / Saint Martin.

Bus / Minibus / Taxi: Public transport consists mainly of shared minibuses and taxis. Shared minibuses on the Dutch side run inexpensive routes into Philipsburg and along the west coast (fares usually just a few US dollars). Taxis are plentiful but more expensive - agree fares in advance for inter-town trips.
