Petřín Lookout Tower
Tower Steel hilltop tower offering panoramic Prague views
On Petřín Hill, the iron lookout tower offers compact panoramic views over Prague; visitors reach it by funicular and explore adjacent gardens and a small mirror maze.
The Petřín Lookout Tower is an iron observation tower on Petřín Hill in Prague, built in 1891 and modeled on the Eiffel Tower. It stands 63.5 metres tall and serves as a hilltop viewpoint over the city.
From the tower platforms visitors get wide views across Prague’s skyline, including the Castle District and Vltava River. The tower is approached through Petřín Park and is commonly reached by a short funicular ride from the Újezd area.
Erected for the 1891 Jubilee Exhibition, the tower was constructed as a local observation structure inspired by contemporary iron towers in Europe. It has been maintained as a public attraction and viewpoint since its construction.
Perched on Petřín Hill in central Prague’s Malá Strana area, the tower is a short lift or steep walk from the Újezd tram stop and sits within one of the city’s main green spaces.
- Access tip: A short funicular ride from Újezd takes you up Petřín Hill for the tower; expect queues in summer and on clear weekends.
- Practical detail: Climbing the staircase yields closer views; the tower has 299 steps to the top platform and charges a small admission fee.
