Peterborough Cathedral

Peterborough Cathedral (Cathedral Church of St Peter, St Paul and St Andrew) is a medieval cathedral in Peterborough, England, notable for its largely Norman West Front and long history as a monastic foundation. Its core fabric dates from the 12th century with later Gothic additions and repairs.

The cathedral’s West Front presents three large Norman arches and is often cited as one of England’s best-preserved Romanesque façades. Inside, the long nave and choir combine Norman and medieval Gothic elements with later Victorian restoration work, and there are several notable tombs and memorials.

The site originated as an early monastery in the Anglo-Saxon period and developed into a major Benedictine abbey before the Norman rebuilding in the 12th century; it became a cathedral following the English Reformation. The building has seen successive restorations and conservation efforts from the medieval period through the 19th century.

The cathedral stands in the centre of Peterborough, immediately east of the city centre and near the main railway station. It is accessible on foot from central Peterborough and forms a prominent landmark in the urban core.
