Pessamit is an Innu First Nations community on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River in the Côte-Nord region of Quebec. The settlement is the home of the Pessamit band, historically also known as Betsiamites.
Local life centers on the mouth and valley of the Betsiamites River and on community institutions serving the band. The area includes residential neighbourhoods, community facilities and traditional harvesting territories used by Innu families.
The community has long-standing Innu presence and cultural continuity in the region; governance is exercised by the Pessamit band council under federal Indigenous frameworks. Contemporary Pessamit combines traditional practices with services and infrastructure typical of northern Quebec settlements.
Pessamit lies on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River in eastern Quebec, in the administrative region of Côte-Nord. It occupies territory along the Betsiamites River and faces the river estuary and the gulf.
