Visit Percut in the dry months (April-September) when rainfall eases, making outdoor trips around Medan, plantations and markets far more reliable. The October-March rainy season brings frequent heavy showers, higher humidity and muddier rural roads, so expect more travel disruption then.

How to Get to Percut
Percut (Percut Sei Tuan) is a suburban district just east of Medan in North Sumatra. Most visitors arrive via Kualanamu International Airport (KNO) and transfer through Medan (Stasiun Medan / the city centre) before taking local transport to Percut.
Kualanamu International Airport (KNO): Kualanamu is the main airport serving Medan and the wider Deli Serdang area (including Percut). Options to reach the city centre and Percut include the Kualanamu Airport Railink to Stasiun Medan (≈ IDR 80,000, about 30-40 minutes to Medan station), the DAMRI airport bus to Medan (≈ IDR 25,000, about 45-60 minutes by road), and taxis or ride-hailing cars (Bluebird / Grab / Gojek car - typically IDR 150,000-300,000 to central Medan, 40-70 minutes depending on traffic). From central Medan it’s usually another 20-40 minutes by road to Percut/ Percut Sei Tuan depending on traffic.
Train: Stasiun Medan (Medan Station) is the main rail hub for the area; the airport rail link (Kualanamu Railink) connects KNO with Stasiun Medan (≈ IDR 80,000, 30-40 minutes). Medan Station also handles regional and intercity services within North Sumatra. For travel into Percut from Medan, onward road transport (taxi, Gojek/Grab or angkot) is normally required.
Bus: DAMRI operates scheduled airport buses between Kualanamu and Medan (≈ IDR 25,000, 45-60 minutes). Within the city and suburbs you can use Trans Metro Deli (city bus corridors) for structured routes (single fares are low - typically a few thousand rupiah) and a dense network of angkot/minibuses for local trips (typical fares IDR 3,000-15,000 depending on distance). Travel times within the metro area vary with traffic; expect 20-60 minutes between Medan and Percut by bus/angkot.
How to Get Around Percut
Getting around Percut is easiest with motorbike taxis (Gojek/Grab) for speed and convenience, while angkots and Trans Metro Deli buses are the cheapest ways to travel between suburbs and Medan. Taxis provide comfort and reliability for door-to-door trips; walking is fine for short local errands.
- Gojek / Grab (motorbike & car) (IDR 8,000-60,000) - App-based motorbike taxis (ojek) are the fastest way to cover short distances and to navigate traffic; motorbike trips around Percut and to nearby Medan neighbourhoods are common and available 24/7. Car rides are pricier but convenient for groups or with luggage - expect surge pricing during peak times. Use the apps to get upfront fares and driver details.
- Angkot / Minibus (IDR 3,000-15,000) - Angkot (shared minibuses) form the backbone of local travel between suburbs, including routes linking Medan with Deli Serdang districts like Percut. They are very cheap and frequent but run on fixed routes and can be crowded; tell the driver your destination and expect to pay on boarding. Useful for short-to-medium distances if you have light luggage.
- Taxi (Bluebird & local) (IDR 30,000-200,000+) - Bluebird and other metered taxis operate in Medan and around Percut; they are safer and more comfortable than angkot for door-to-door trips. Taxis are a good option late at night or with luggage, but fares are higher than public transport - always choose a metered vehicle or confirm a written fare before starting a negotiated trip.
- Trans Metro Deli & DAMRI buses (IDR 3,000-25,000) - Trans Metro Deli provides structured bus corridors within the Medan metro area and is cheap and reliable for predictable routes. DAMRI runs scheduled airport buses linking Kualanamu with central Medan. Buses are economical but can be slower than motorbike taxis; they're a good choice if you want to avoid traffic cost surprises.
- Motorbike or Car Rental (IDR 70,000-300,000 per day) - Renting a motorbike is common for more freedom around Percut and neighbouring towns - roads are straightforward but watch for local driving styles and occasional poor road surfaces. Car rental (self-drive or with driver) is useful for day trips and moving luggage. Check insurance and local driving requirements before hiring.
- Walking - Walking is practical for short distances within villages and market areas in Percut; many local streets are pedestrian-friendly but shade can be limited and sidewalks are inconsistent. Use walking for short errands, but take a bike or ojol for anything longer.
