Pera Museum in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu quarter houses Orientalist paintings, Anatolian weights and measures and rotating contemporary shows in a restored building. Visitors combine permanent collections with temporary exhibitions and evening events.
The Pera Museum is an art and cultural museum in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, founded and run by the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation and opened in 2005.
The museum occupies a converted late 19th-century hotel building in Beyoğlu; the foundation that established the museum assembled its core collections and opened the space to the public in the early 21st century.
Situated in central Beyoğlu, the museum sits on the European side of Istanbul close to Taksim and the Istiklal Avenue district.
- Tortoise Trainer: Home to Osman Hamdi Bey's well-known painting "The Tortoise Trainer", frequently cited as a highlight of the collection.
- Building and founding: Housed in a late 19th-century building that was formerly the Bristol Hotel and opened as the Pera Museum by the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation in 2005.
