Penshurst Place

Penshurst Place is a medieval manor house and historic estate in the village of Penshurst in Kent, England. The core of the house dates to 1341 and the estate has been in the ownership of the Sidney family since the 16th century.

Visitors can tour the house’s period rooms and family collections, including a 14th-century Great Hall and a Long Gallery with historic portraits and furniture. The formal walled gardens, lawns, topiary and deer park are prominent features and are open to visitors during the public season.

Constructed in the early 14th century, the house passed through several noble families and was acquired by the Sidneys in 1552, becoming closely associated with Sir Philip Sidney and subsequent generations. Over centuries the house was modified and extended while retaining substantial medieval fabric.

Situated in rural Kent in southeast England, in the village of Penshurst, approximately 30 to 40 kilometres southeast of central London and near the town of Tonbridge.
