Pender Harbour is a coastal network of sheltered coves and communities on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada, known for boating, fishing, and seaside recreation. The area comprises several settlements clustered around a protected harbour system and a series of inlets.

Boating and marine activities are the primary draw - the harbour supports marinas, private moorage, and numerous anchorages that make it popular with recreational sailors and motor boaters. Kayaking, sport fishing, and shoreline hiking are common visitor activities, and local businesses supply marine services, galleries, and eateries.

The region has long-standing Indigenous presence by the local First Nations peoples and was later developed for logging, fishing, and tourism by European settlers. Over time the community evolved into a mix of year-round residents and seasonal visitors attracted to marine recreation.

Geographically the harbour sits on the Sunshine Coast north of the Strait of Georgia, west of mainland British Columbia and northwest of Vancouver across the water. The nearest larger town on the Sunshine Coast is Sechelt, and vehicular access typically follows the coastal road network after BC Ferry connections.

  • Access: Accessible from the Lower Sunshine Coast road network and by BC Ferries connections via Horseshoe Bay to Langdale followed by a road drive into the harbour area.
  • Harbour character: The harbour is a complex of sheltered coves and inlets that support marinas, private moorage, and recreational boating activity, especially in summer.

What to See #

  • Madeira Park: Madeira Park functions as the commercial and service centre for the Pender Harbour area, with shops, marinas, and visitor services.
  • Garden Bay: Garden Bay lies on the southern side of the harbour system and includes marinas and sheltered anchorages popular with recreational boaters.
  • Irvines Landing: Irvines Landing is a small historic landing and marina within the harbour used by private boats and local marine services.
