Peña Vieja is a prominent limestone peak in the Cantabrian section of the Picos de Europa mountain range in northern Spain, notable for its rocky summit and alpine character. It is one of the highest peaks in the central Picos de Europa massif.
The summit reaches about 2,613 metres, offering panoramic views across the Picos de Europa and toward the Cantabrian coast on clear days. Routes up Peña Vieja are steep and rocky, drawing hillwalkers and scramblers rather than casual tourists.
The peak is a natural landmark of the Picos de Europa; its paths and climbing routes have been used by local shepherds and mountaineers rather than being associated with built heritage. Modern recreational climbing and hiking increased throughout the 20th century with the growth of alpine tourism in the Picos.
