Pécs Cathedral

Pécs Cathedral is the Roman Catholic cathedral in the city of Pécs, Baranya County, southern Hungary, and the seat of the Diocese of Pécs. The building’s current appearance largely reflects a major Baroque rebuilding in the 18th century.

The cathedral complex contains prominent twin towers, a richly decorated Baroque interior and an accessible crypt area. Visitors commonly view the interior altarpieces and frescoes and may access viewpoints from the towers for views across Pécs.

The site has hosted Christian worship since the medieval period and has undergone multiple rebuildings and restorations over centuries, incorporating earlier masonry and burial chambers beneath the current floor level. The present Baroque phase dates to the 1700s, following earlier medieval construction.

The cathedral stands in the historic centre of Pécs, on Cathedral Square adjacent to the city’s main pedestrian areas and civic buildings in Baranya County, southern Hungary.
