Paruma is a high Andean mountain and volcanic peak located in the Cordillera Occidental on the border region between Bolivia and Chile. It forms part of the high-altitude volcanic landscape of the Central Andes.
The area is remote and characterised by high-elevation terrain, volcanic cones and sparse infrastructure; visits are typically undertaken by experienced mountain or geological parties rather than casual tourists.
Paruma is part of the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes, a long chain of volcanic peaks formed by subduction-related volcanism. The surrounding region has a history of high-altitude mining and pastoralism but the mountain itself is primarily a natural landmark.
Located in the high Andes near the Bolivia-Chile frontier, the peak sits in a remote section of the Cordillera Occidental within Bolivia’s Andean uplands.
