Parramatta Park

Parramatta Park is a large public park in Parramatta, in the Greater Sydney region of New South Wales, and contains significant colonial-era buildings including a governor’s residence that forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage listing. The park dates from the early colonial period and is recognised for its historical and cultural importance.

Open lawns, riverside paths and formal heritage areas are combined with playgrounds, sports fields and picnic spots. The site includes the colonial Old Government House and extensive river foreshore used for walking and community events. Several interpreted trails and guided tours focus on the park’s colonial buildings and designed landscapes.

The land was used as a governor’s domain in the colonial period and contains structures and layouts from the 18th and 19th centuries; it has since transitioned into public parkland and a heritage precinct managed for both recreation and conservation. The park’s heritage buildings have been conserved and operate as museum spaces for the colonial era.

The park sits in central Parramatta on the banks of the Parramatta River, roughly 24 kilometres west of Sydney CBD, adjacent to the city’s commercial centre and transport hubs.
