Parnassos National Park
National Park Mountain national park with pine forests and ski slopes
Mountain range in Central Greece around Mount Parnassus with limestone ridges, gorges and a ski area. Visitors hike, ski in winter and use trails that offer wide views over surrounding valleys.
Parnassos National Park protects the limestone massifs and high-altitude ecosystems of Mount Parnassos in central Greece, including its highest peak at about 2,457 meters. The area is important for montane flora and for recreational mountain use.
The park combines alpine terrain, pine and fir forests, and extensive trail networks used for hiking and nature observation; higher slopes show seasonal snow and open rocky summits. A developed downhill ski area operates on the mountain’s slopes and draws winter visitors, while nearby towns such as Arachova provide visitor services.
The UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site of Delphi sits on the mountain’s southwestern slopes and is frequently visited together with the park. Wildlife viewing, mountain walking and scenic drives to high overlooks are common visitor activities.
The mountain has a long human presence stretching from antiquity, with the sanctuary of Delphi as a major ancient center. In modern times the area has been managed for conservation and outdoor recreation, with infrastructure added for skiing and visitor access.
The park occupies the massif of Mount Parnassos in Central Greece, rising above the valley that contains Delphi and the town of Arachova. It is a central highland destination roughly inland from the Gulf of Corinth and served by regional roads from nearby towns.
