Pariser Platz

Pariser Platz is a rectangular square in central Berlin situated directly east of the Brandenburg Gate, historically and ceremonially important within the city fabric. The square was named in the early 19th century after the Allied occupation of Paris in 1814.

The space is framed by landmark and diplomatic buildings including the Hotel Adlon and reconstructed classical façades housing embassies and cultural institutions. Its open surface is used for official ceremonies, public gatherings and as a primary sightline to the Brandenburg Gate.

The square was heavily damaged in World War II, divided during the Cold War and underwent reconstruction after German reunification, with major façades and institutions restored or rebuilt in the 1990s and 2000s.

Pariser Platz sits at the eastern end of the Tiergarten and the western terminus of Unter den Linden in Berlin’s Mitte district, adjacent to major transport links and central museums.
