Pardubice Castle is a historic fortified and residential complex in the centre of Pardubice in eastern Bohemia, Czech Republic, which retains medieval foundations and later Renaissance rebuilding. The castle has been adapted over centuries and today forms a prominent part of the city’s historic core.
Surviving fabric includes medieval masonry alongside Renaissance and later alterations; the ensemble historically combined defensive, residential and administrative functions for regional rulers. Today parts of the complex are used for exhibitions and cultural activities that present local history.
The original fortified site dates to the high medieval period and the complex was substantially remodelled during the Renaissance, producing the chateau-like appearance visible today. The castle has been integrated with the townscape and modified to serve civic functions in later centuries.
