Parco degli Acquedotti
Park Public park preserving ancient Roman aqueduct remains
A public park on Rome’s southeast outskirts where long stretches of ancient aqueduct remains cut across lawns; popular for walks, photography and local joggers.
The Parco degli Acquedotti is a public park on the southeastern edge of Rome notable for large, exposed sections of ancient Roman aqueducts. The site preserves visible imperial-era masonry that dates to the 1st century AD.
Walkways and open grassland run alongside long stretches of multi-arched aqueduct remains, offering extensive views of the ruined water channels that supplied ancient Rome. The park covers several hectares and provides space for walking, jogging and photography with aqueduct arches visible across long distances.
The park is commonly visited as part of trips to the Appian Way area and is used by locals for recreation and by visitors seeking examples of Roman engineering. Specific aqueduct sections stand out as photographic subjects and as examples of Roman infrastructure preserved in an urban setting.
The visible aqueduct structures belong mainly to major imperial aqueducts such as the Aqua Claudia and the Anio Novus, constructed and completed during the first century AD under imperial patronage. Over centuries the aqueducts fell out of use and parts survived as ruins that became incorporated into the modern park within the Appian Way Regional Park.
The park lies in Rome’s southeast suburbs, within the Appian Way Regional Park and a short drive from the city centre. It is accessed from main roads and local public transport serving the Appian Way area.
