The layout includes stepped and terraced walkways, wooded sections and open clearings, with paths that lead up to elevated points offering broad views across Barcelona. The park is primarily used for walking, local recreation and enjoying city panoramas rather than formal horticultural displays.
Green spaces and paths were developed progressively as the surrounding neighbourhood urbanised, with enhancements across the 20th century to improve access and walkways. The park reflects the mixed historic growth of the Guinardó area.
Parc del Guinardó sits on the eastern side of Barcelona, on the slopes of the Guinardó hill within the Horta-Guinardó district, northeast of the city centre and served by local streets and public transport.
