Paradeplatz

Paradeplatz is a central city square in Zurich, Switzerland, located at the top end of Bahnhofstrasse and within the heart of the city’s financial district. It is a well-known public space and tram junction in Zurich’s city centre.

The square functions as an important transport interchange served by multiple tram lines and is surrounded by banks, offices and prominent cafés and chocolatiers. Because of its central position it is a common meeting point and a focal node for pedestrians moving between the main train station and the shopping boulevard.

Historically the area developed as part of Zurich’s 19th-century expansion into a commercial and banking quarter, and the square’s role consolidated as tram traffic and commercial activity increased. Its built environment today reflects the concentration of financial and retail activity along Bahnhofstrasse.

Paradeplatz sits within central Zurich a short walk from Zurich Hauptbahnhof and directly on Bahnhofstrasse, one of Europe’s principal shopping streets. The square is at street level and very accessible on foot or by public transport.
