How to Get to Panaga#
Panaga is a community in the oil-producing Belait District; visitors usually arrive via Brunei International Airport (BWN) or via Miri (MYY) across the border. Road travel is common - private transfers or company shuttles are widely used.
Brunei International Airport (BWN): Panaga is in the Belait District near Seria; road transfer from BWN takes about 1.5-2 hours and private taxis cost roughly BND 50-90 depending on vehicle and time.
Miri Airport (MYY): Miri (Malaysia) is often used as an alternative gateway for Panaga/Seria because it’s closer for some cross-border travellers. Expect around 1-1.5 hours of driving plus immigration processing; taxi fares usually fall in the MYR 80-200 range.
Train: There is no passenger rail service in Brunei.
Bus: Local buses and coaches service the Belait District towns; they are economical but less frequent than taxis and can take longer (allow 2+ hours from BSB). If you are staying at company housing in Panaga (oilfield areas), check whether employer or accommodation provides shuttle services for guests.
How to Get Around Panaga#
Panaga is most practically reached by car or private transfer; public buses exist but are slower and less frequent. If visiting for business, company shuttles are often the best option.
- Taxi / Private transfer (BND 50-90) - Taxis and private transfers from BWN or Bandar Seri Begawan to Panaga are common and convenient for visitors. For those linked to oil companies, employer-arranged transfers are frequently available and recommended.
- Inter-district bus / coach (BND 2-10) - Public buses connect Panaga and Seria with other Belait District towns and Bandar Seri Begawan. They are the cheapest option but offer fewer departures and slower journey times.
- Company transport (Often company-subsidised) - Many multinational oil companies operating in Panaga provide shuttle services for staff and sometimes for visitors with appointments. If you have business contacts, enquire about using company transport.
- Car hire (BND 40-100/day) - Car rental is useful for exploring beaches and nearby towns in Belait District. Roads are generally in good condition; fuel stations are available in major towns.
- Walking - Panaga is a small community with many facilities within walking distance; for wider exploration you’ll need motor transport.
Where to Stay in Panaga#
