Palau de la Música Catalana

Palau de la Música Catalana is a concert hall in Barcelona’s Eixample district, completed in 1908 and designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. It is a leading example of Catalan modernisme and functions as both a performance venue and architectural landmark.

The building’s richly ornamented main auditorium seats around 2,000 to 2,200 people and is notable for its stained-glass skylight, sculptural decoration, and integrated mosaics. The foyer, stage, and facade are significant artistic features often emphasized on building tours and during performances.

Commissioned by the Orfeó Català choral society, it was constructed between 1905 and 1908 with contributions from many contemporary Catalan artists. The palace has operated continuously as a concert venue and underwent restorations in the late 20th and early 21st centuries to preserve decorative elements and update technical systems.

Located in central Barcelona, the Palau sits on Carrer del Palau de la Música and is within walking distance of the Gothic Quarter and other central cultural attractions. It is served by Barcelona’s public transport network and is a common stop on architectural and music-oriented itineraries.
