The Palace of the Parliament is a vast administrative and parliamentary building in central Bucharest, Romania, constructed during the late 20th century and notable for its enormous scale and heavy use of Romanian materials.
Large, richly decorated interiors and long ceremonial corridors are principal draws - the complex contains more than 1,000 rooms and extensive reception halls used for state functions and exhibitions. The building also houses the National Museum of Contemporary Art and other institutional offices, and guided visits typically last around one to two hours depending on route.
Construction was commissioned by Nicolae Ceaușescu in the 1980s; design work was led by a team under architect Anca Petrescu and construction continued through the late 1980s and into the 1990s. After 1989 the building was repurposed to accommodate the Romanian Parliament and several cultural institutions.
Sited in central Bucharest near Izvor Park and the Dâmbovița River, the Palace dominates the surrounding boulevards and is easily reachable from the city centre by public transport and road links.

- Grand halls and reception rooms: A network of large reception halls, ceremonial staircases and ornate meeting rooms distributed across more than 1,000 rooms, notable for heavy use of Romanian stone and decorative materials.
How to Get to Palace of the Parliament #
The Palace of the Parliament is in central Bucharest on Izvor/Unirii side of the city centre. The closest metro access is Izvor station on Metro Line M1 - only a couple of minutes’ walk from the building; Piața Unirii metro complex is also within a 10-15 minute walk. It’s straightforward to reach by taxi, city bus or on foot from central Bucharest locations.
