Palace of Geguti

The Palace of Geguti is a medieval royal palace complex in the Imereti region of western Georgia, associated with the Georgian kingdom and its royal court in the medieval period. The site consists of archaeological remains of a substantial stone-built residence used by Georgian rulers.

Visitors see the foundations and partial walls of the palace, which include the footprint of a large central hall and ancillary spaces that indicate its use as a royal residence and administrative centre. Interpretive material at the site explains construction techniques and the palace’s role within medieval Georgian court life.

The complex was built and used during the high medieval period, with primary phases of construction in the 12th century when the Georgian monarchy consolidated regional power.
