Palace of Charles V

The Palace of Charles V is a 16th-century Renaissance building set within the Alhambra complex in Granada, Spain, commissioned by Emperor Charles V. It is notable for its bold Renaissance form placed amid the surrounding medieval and Nasrid architecture.

The most prominent feature is a circular patio contained within a square exterior mass, creating a contrast with the nearby Nasrid palaces. Interior spaces are used for museum displays and cultural exhibitions connected to the Alhambra.

Commissioned in the early 16th century, construction and design reflect the imperial ambitions of the patron and the adoption of Renaissance architectural language in Spain. The palace became part of the wider Alhambra complex and has been adapted to house museums and exhibition spaces.

The building sits on the Sabika hill inside the Alhambra, overlooking Granada and the Darro valley, and is reached as part of the Alhambra visitor route.
