Island Uninhabited Hebridean island with archaeological remains
Uninhabited island in the Barra Isles noted for machair grassland, sandy bays and seabird colonies; reached by private boat for walking and birdwatching.
Pabbay in the Barra Isles is an uninhabited island in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. It forms part of the scattered islands and skerries that make up the Barra group.
The island is notable for its remote, windswept landscape, coastal cliffs and sea-level habitats that attract seabirds and marine life. There are traces of past human activity and ruined structures on the island but no permanent settlement.
Historically the island supported small-scale crofting and seasonal use but was abandoned as permanent residence; surviving ruins indicate earlier habitation and maritime use. Over time it has remained largely uninhabited and used mainly for grazing and wildlife.
