How to Get to Outjo
Outjo is best reached by road from Windhoek or Otjiwarongo. Rent a car for the most flexibility; regular coach services also connect Windhoek with northern towns, with onward local transfers to Outjo.
Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH), Windhoek: The main international arrival point for Namibia; Outjo is about 280-350 km from Windhoek depending on route (roughly 4-5 hours by car). From Windhoek you can rent a car or use intercity coach services to reach Outjo.
Ondangwa (OND) / Otjiwarongo (OTJ - airstrips): Otjiwarongo has a small airfield and regional access; some charter flights serve northern Namibia. For most travellers heading to Outjo, overland travel from Windhoek or Otjiwarongo is the usual choice.
Train: Namibia has limited passenger rail services and they do not provide convenient passenger access to Outjo; rail is not a practical option for most travellers to Outjo.
Bus / Coach: Intercape and other regional coach operators run services between Windhoek and northern towns; coaches and private shuttles are common for travellers to Outjo-journey times are several hours, depending on stops and route.
How to Get Around Outjo #
Outjo’s town centre is compact and straightforward to walk. Many travellers use rental cars to explore Namibia; driving is the most convenient way to reach Etosha and surrounding attractions. Shuttle services and private transfers to lodges are common, but public transport and taxis in town are limited - book transfers in advance, especially in peak safari season.
