Otgontenger (sometimes rendered Otgon Tenger) is a prominent mountain in Zavkhan Province in western Mongolia and is the highest peak of the Khangai mountain range at 4,008 metres above sea level. It is notable both for its elevation and for its cultural significance.
The peak supports a permanent glacier near its summit and is a destination for experienced climbers as well as for Mongolian pilgrims who regard the mountain as sacred. Local religious and traditional practices continue to mark the mountain as a site of spiritual importance.
Otgontenger stands within the highlands of western Mongolia in Zavkhan Province and dominates the surrounding terrain of the Khangai range.

How to Get to Otgontenger #
Otgontenger is reached via paved and unpaved roads from Uliastai (the provincial center of Zavkhan); from Uliastai it is roughly a few hours’ drive depending on conditions. Arrange a local guide familiar with routes and cultural protocols.
