How to Get to Osh

Osh is served by Osh International Airport (OSS) just outside the city and by the city's railway station (Osh Railway Station) for occasional long-distance trains. Many visitors also arrive overland by long-distance bus or marshrutka from other Kyrgyz cities and neighbouring Uzbekistan.

By Air

Osh International Airport (OSS): The airport is about 6-8 km south of the city centre. From the terminal you can take a shared minibus (marshrutka) into town for roughly 30-60 KGS (about 20-30 minutes) or a metered/negotiated taxi for around 200-500 KGS (10-20 minutes), depending on luggage and traffic.

(Alternate arrival) Bishkek - Manas International (FRU): If you arrive into Bishkek instead, there are frequent domestic flights from Manas to Osh (flight time ~1 hour) and numerous overland options (see By Train & Bus). Domestic flight fares and schedules vary by season; check airline sites for current prices.

By Train & Bus

Train: Osh Railway Station (Osh vokzal) is the city’s main rail hub. There are periodic long-distance/overnight services to Bishkek and some cross-border/seasonal services; journeys to Bishkek typically take on the order of 12-18 hours depending on the service and route. Ticket prices vary by class - expect a broad range and check Kyrgyz Railways or the station ticket office for current availability.

Bus / Marshrutka: The Central Bus Station (Avtovokzal) handles regional coaches and the marshrutka network. Marshrutkas run frequently to nearby cities (e.g., Jalal-Abad, Uzgen) and intercity buses go to Bishkek and to border crossings; typical fares are roughly 50-700 KGS depending on distance (short regional hops are cheapest, long routes to Bishkek take ~7-9 hours). Buy tickets at the station or from drivers for marshrutkas; schedules can be informal.

How to Get Around Osh

Osh is best navigated with a mix of marshrutkas for short, cheap hops and taxis when you want door-to-door convenience or carry luggage. Local buses cover longer urban routes but can be slow; intercity coaches and occasional trains connect the city regionally. For most visitors, combining marshrutkas and taxis (and walking inside the old town and market) gives the best balance of cost and convenience.

Nightlife in Osh #

Osh’s evenings are local and lively in a low-key way: tea-houses, bazaars and cafés around central Lenin Square and the Osh Bazaar keep going late. Nightlife is informal - families, students and travellers mix at shashlyk stands and cafés rather than clubs. Safety is generally fine in central areas but avoid unlit side streets at night; dress modestly in more conservative neighbourhoods.
