Ooidonk Castle is a moated castle in East Flanders, Belgium, on a historic fortified site near Deinze. The present appearance dates chiefly to 16th-century rebuilding with later restoration work and retains a pronounced Renaissance profile.

The estate is noted for its waterways and conical towers, with a compact main building arranged around an interior courtyard and a surrounding formal garden. The moated setting and restored facades are the castle’s principal visual highlights and are the focus of most visitor routes.

A fortified site existed here in the medieval period; the castle was substantially rebuilt in the 16th century and underwent restoration and interior refurbishment in later centuries. It has remained a private estate while offering limited public access for tours and garden visits.

Set near the village of Bachte-Maria-Leerne in the municipality of Deinze, the castle occupies a moated island in a rural part of Flanders and is approached via estate roads and minor lanes.

Ooidonk Castle sits about 15 km west of Ghent and 5-8 km from Deinze. By car take the N43/Dendermondesteenweg and follow local signs to Ooidonk; limited parking is adjacent to the estate. From Deinze train station, taxis are the most direct option (roughly a 10-15 minute drive). There is no frequent direct public bus to the gate-check local bus timetables for seasonal or event services.

• Arrive early on a weekend to see the courtyard before the tour groups; the light on the courtyard façade is best around 9:30-11am.
• Use the small bridge entrance off the Dendermondesteenweg (N43) rather than the larger parking lot if approaching from Deinze-the approach feels more theatrical.
• Look for the engraved initials and dates on the stone steps inside the gatehouse; they mark generations of repairs and are often overlooked.
