Ons Island

Ons Island is a small Atlantic island off the Rías Baixas coast of Galicia, Spain, and is included in the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park. It is a protected maritime-terrestrial area known for coastal scenery and wildlife.

Trails link a compact harbour settlement to sandy beaches and rocky headlands; the island is popular for short hikes, birdwatching and bathing, and is served by regular ferries from mainland ports during the tourist season. There are several viewpoints and a local lighthouse reached by walking paths.

Historically the island supported small-scale fishing and a modest resident community; over the 20th century it shifted toward seasonal tourism and conservation under the national park. Traditional dwellings and a small harbour remain at the island’s main settlement.

Geographically the island sits off the coast of the Ría de Pontevedra within Galicia, reachable by a short ferry crossing from the coastal towns of Bueu and Portonovo.

• Lighthouse and viewpoints: A coastal lighthouse and several viewpoints reached by footpaths that provide panoramas across the Ría de Pontevedra and neighbouring islets.
