Omonoia Square is a major central square in Athens, Greece, historically a focal point for transport, commerce and public life in the city centre. The square sits at a crossroads of major streets and is surrounded by shops, hotels and offices.

The square functions as an interchange for urban public-transport routes and metro access and is commonly used by commuters and shoppers. A substantial redesign of the public space was carried out and completed in the late 2010s to 2020, updating paving, lighting and planting to improve pedestrian access.

Historically Omonoia has been a site for demonstrations, public gatherings and civic events through the 19th and 20th centuries, and it remains one of Athens’ busiest urban nodes. It is located a short distance north of Syntagma Square in central Athens.

From Athens airport the drive is roughly 30-45 minutes (about 35 km) via the A6/Attiki Odos into the city; interurban buses and taxis provide direct access to the central metro network.

• Visit in daytime hours when the renovated square and surrounding arcades are active-recent redevelopment means there are new shops and public installations that many passersby miss.
• Branch into the adjacent streets on the eastern and northern sides to find long‑standing cafes, markets and small galleries-many tourists only stop in the square itself and miss these nearby local businesses.
