Oluwa Forest Reserve
National Park Tropical forest reserve protecting biodiversity and primates
Oluwa Forest Reserve in Ondo State protects coastal rainforest and mangroves; visitors join guided walks, community conservation projects and studies of local biodiversity.
Oluwa Forest Reserve is a protected forest reserve in Ondo State in southwestern Nigeria that preserves remnants of lowland tropical rainforest. It is part of the coastal forest zone and stands among the remaining patches of native forest in a region that has experienced extensive agricultural conversion.
The reserve supports rainforest vegetation and associated wildlife species and has been subject to conservation attention due to pressures from logging, agriculture, and plantation expansion. Local and regional conservation efforts aim to protect remaining forest blocks and biodiversity.
Historically the area formed part of a continuous coastal rainforest belt; over time much of the surrounding landscape has been altered for farming and development, leaving the reserve as an important refuge for native species. Management arrangements seek to balance protection with sustainable use.
Geographically it lies in Ondo State in southwestern Nigeria, within the coastal hinterland and accessible from nearby towns and road networks in the region.
