Olimarao
Island Remote Yap State atoll known for diving and reefs
Olimarao Atoll in Yap State: an uninhabited coral atoll and marine reserve prized for remote snorkeling, diving and seabird colonies; access requires boat or liveaboard arrangements.
Olimarao is a small, uninhabited atoll in Yap State of the Federated States of Micronesia. It is valued for its intact marine habitats and bird colonies.
The atoll comprises a coral rim with a central lagoon and largely undeveloped islets that provide nesting habitat for seabirds and important reef and lagoon environments for marine life. Visitors generally encounter no infrastructure and should expect natural, undeveloped conditions.
Like other remote atolls in the Caroline Islands, Olimarao has been used intermittently by local islanders for fishing and resource gathering but has no permanent settlement. It is recognised for its ecological importance rather than built heritage.
Olimarao lies in Yap State within the Caroline Islands of the western Pacific Ocean and is administered as part of the Federated States of Micronesia. It is one of the outer islands associated with Yap island.
- Access and facilities: Uninhabited and remote, access typically requires private boat passage and permission from local authorities; there are no visitor facilities on the atoll.
