From Budapest: Hollókő is in Nógrád County north of the capital and is commonly reached by car in about 1-1.5 hours (roughly 80-100 km) using the M3 motorway out of Budapest and then local roads toward Pásztó/Balassagyarmat. There are regular regional Volán bus services from Budapest coach stations to nearby towns (Pásztó or Balassagyarmat); from those towns take a local bus or taxi to Hollókő. The village itself is compact - once dropped at the village stop it is a short walk (typically under 10 minutes) into the historic center.
