Olana State Historic Site is the former home and studio of Hudson River School painter Frederic Edwin Church, located in Columbia County, New York. The Persian- and Middle Eastern-influenced villa and surrounding designed landscape date to the 1870s and are preserved as a historic site and museum.
The property includes Churchs polychrome main house and studio spaces, exhibition galleries in the carriage barn, and approximately 250 acres of designed landscape with intentional viewpoints across the Hudson River Valley to the Catskill Mountains. Guided tours, exhibitions of Churchs work and interpretive programs explain the house decoration, landscape design and artistic practice.
Frederic Edwin Church and his wife built and developed the estate in the 19th century, working with Calvert Vaux on the house and landscape. The property remained in private hands until the mid 20th century when preservation efforts secured it and it subsequently became a state historic site to protect Churchs home and viewshed.

From Hudson: follow NY‑9G north out of Hudson for about 2 miles to the Olana visitor parking area at 5720 NY‑9G. The site is also reachable by car via I‑90 (exit 11) and local roads. Amtrak stops at Hudson; taxis or rideshares run the 3-5 mile transfer. On‑site parking is available.
