Ōita Stadium is a multi-purpose sports stadium in Ōita Prefecture, Japan, used for football, athletics and large events. It opened in the early 2000s and is one of the region’s principal sports venues.
The stadium features a full-size grass pitch surrounded by spectator tiers and athletics facilities, and it can accommodate tens of thousands of spectators for major fixtures. It has been used for domestic club matches, international fixtures and large sporting events.
Built and opened to serve regional sports needs and to host international events, the stadium gained wider recognition when it served as a host venue during the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Since then it has continued to stage sporting fixtures and concerts.
