The Ohara Museum of Art is an art museum in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, Japan, founded in 1930 by collector Magosaburo Ohara. It is noted as the first institution in Japan to maintain a permanent collection of Western paintings.
The collection emphasizes Western modern and late 19th-century art and includes works by artists such as El Greco, Monet, Matisse, Picasso, Gauguin and Renoir alongside Japanese artists. Exhibitions are displayed in a compact complex that sits within the Kurashiki Bikan historical district.
Magosaburo Ohara created the museum to make Western art accessible in Japan; the gallery opened in 1930 and expanded its holdings through purchases and donations over the 20th century. The museum has since developed additional exhibition space to accommodate rotating displays and local crafts.
The museum is in central Kurashiki, within the Bikan Quarter near the historic canal area, roughly 15 km west of Okayama city center. It is walkable from Kurashiki Station and often visited as part of a day trip from Okayama.
