The area was acquired and designated for public recreation and conservation to preserve coastal habitat and provide public access to the Seacoast. Over time the park has developed visitor services and interpretive programming focused on marine ecology.
Situated in the town of Rye on New Hampshire’s Seacoast, the park lies just south of Portsmouth - roughly 5 miles (about 8 kilometers) from that city and directly on the Gulf of Maine.
