Nysa is an archaeological site and ancient city in Ayd31n Province, Turkey, on the slopes above the Maeander valley. The site contains substantial Hellenistic and Roman remains and is an important local archaeological destination.
Extensive ruins including a large hillside theatre, the remains of a civic library and colonnaded streets, plus other public buildings and a stadium. The visible stonework and terraced layout make the site readable on foot and suitable for guided visits.
Founded in the Hellenistic period and flourishing through the Roman era, the city served as a regional centre of administration, learning and public life in antiquity. Excavations over the 20th and 21st centuries have revealed its major monuments and urban plan.
Located inland in Ayd31n Province near the modern town of Sultanhisar, the site occupies sloping terrain above the river valley in western Anatolia.
