Main image

Nyord is a small Danish island in the Baltic region of Zealand, administered with nearby municipalities in southern Denmark. It is known for a compact traditional village and surrounding natural marshes.

A very small, well-preserved village with historic cottages and a quiet harbour, plus extensive tidal flats and marshes that attract migrating and resident waterbirds. The island offers short walking routes and viewpoints across the marshes rather than long hiking trails.

Nyord has historically been a rural fishing and farming community; the island’s marshes and tidal flats have long been used for salt hay and as grazing land, and more recently have been protected for wildlife.

Situated off the eastern coast of Zealand near the larger island of MF8n, Nyord is reached by a narrow road and causeway from the neighbouring islands and is part of the southern Danish coastal landscape.

  • Birdlife: The island is notable for its protected tidal flats and birdlife, making it a destination for birdwatchers and nature photographers.
