How to Get to Nuuksio National Park #

Nuuksio National Park is in Espoo, northwest of Helsinki. From Helsinki city centre it’s roughly 30-40 km by road (about 30-45 minutes by car depending on start point and traffic) via the main highways toward Espoo and then local roads into Nuuksio.

Public transport: regional buses run from Espoo and Helsinki to bus stops near the park’s visitor centres (for example Haukkalampi), with short walks from the bus stops to trails and facilities. Check local Espoo/region timetables for current routes and stops.

Tips for Visiting Nuuksio National Park #

  • Start hikes early on weekdays to avoid day-visitors from greater Helsinki; weekends and warm summer days bring most of the crowds to the popular Haukkalampi and Haltia areas.
  • Use the Haltia (Finnish Nature Centre) entrance for up-to-date trail maps and parking information before setting out - the centre is the most reliable place for local trail conditions and permits.
  • If you want more solitude, choose lesser-used trailheads such as Siikajärvi or Pahajärvi rather than the Haukkalampi/Haltia trails, which concentrate most day visitors.
