Religious structures on the headland were developed as pilgrimage and local devotional sites in recent decades.

How to Get to Nui Son Tra #

Nui Son Tra (Son Tra Peninsula) is just northeast of central Da Nang - roughly 8-12 km from the city center. The usual driving route is via the coastal Vo Nguyen Giap road toward the peninsula; taxis or motorbike rentals from central Da Nang typically take about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. There are several small paved roads that climb into the peninsula from the main coastal road; parking is available at viewpoint areas and most viewpoints are a short walk (a few minutes) from roadside parking.

Public buses from Da Nang serve parts of the peninsula (check local bus maps at the Da Nang bus station), but many visitors use taxis, ride-hailing or motorbike to reach the main viewpoints.

Tips for Visiting Nui Son Tra #

  • Go early in the morning (sunrise to mid-morning) - wildlife is most active then and you have the best chance to see the Son Tra red-shanked douc langurs before the heat and tour traffic build up.
  • Approach via the main Son Tra peninsula road from Da Nang rather than trying to cut across smaller tracks; the road leads to the Linh Ung Pagoda (the Lady Buddha) and provides the easiest access to viewpoints.
  • Don't skip Ban Co Peak (the telecom tower area) - a short drive or walk up gives sweeping views over Da Nang and the sea that many day-trippers miss.
  • Avoid weekend afternoons when local visitors and coach tours concentrate on the peninsula; weekday mornings or late afternoons are quieter for both views and wildlife watching.
