An inhabited island in Vestfold in the Oslofjord off southeastern Norway, located immediately southwest of the town of Tønsberg. It has long been settled and is connected by road links to neighbouring islands and the mainland.
A largely residential island with a fragmented coastline of bays, small beaches and marinas; the eastern side faces Tønsberg and concentrates most services and ferries. Coastal routes and short walking paths lead to popular swimming spots and local harbors used for leisure boating.
The island has supported fishing, small-scale farming and coastal trade for centuries and functioned as its own municipality until it became part of a larger municipal unit in 2018. Development intensified in the 20th century as summer homes and commuter residences expanded along the shoreline.
Lies in the inner Oslofjord in Vestfold county, just southwest of the town of Tønsberg and within short driving distance of the Vestfold mainland and regional transport links.
