How to Get to Novalja

Novalja (on Pag island) is served best via Zadar Airport or by road from Rijeka/ Zadar; you'll complete the journey by bus, car or taxi and often cross the Prizna-Žigljen ferry link if approaching from the north. There's no direct rail service to the town.

By Air

Zadar Airport (ZAD): The closest commercial airport to Pag island; Zadar city is about 50-60 km from Novalja. From the airport you can take a taxi or rent a car (drive ≈50-70 minutes depending on route); taxis into Novalja typically run in the range of 400-700 HRK one-way in high season. There are also regional buses from Zadar city to Novalja (see Bus paragraph).

Rijeka Airport (RJK) / Rijeka (KRK as alternate on island of Krk): Rijeka is farther (roughly 1.5-2 hours drive to Novalja) but may be convenient depending on flight schedules. From Rijeka you can rent a car or take buses that connect via the mainland and Pag island; driving time is around 90-120 minutes.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no direct rail line to Novalja; the nearest major rail stations are Zadar or Rijeka. From those stations you continue by bus or car.

Bus: Regular bus services connect Zadar and other coastal cities to Novalja (operators include Arriva and local carriers). Typical travel time Zadar → Novalja is about 1.25-1.75 hours depending on route and whether the Prizna-Žigljen ferry crossing is used. Fares are commonly in the range of HRK 40-80 (≈€6-11) one-way; schedules are seasonal so check timetables before travel.

How to Get Around Novalja #

Novalja town is compact and walkable; the main tourist draws are nearby beaches, so a car or scooter makes exploring easier. In summer there are frequent shuttle buses and private transfers to Zrće Beach and other hotspots. Taxis and scooter rentals are common in peak season; parking and transport costs rise during music-festival weeks. Outside July-August, services are quieter and some seasonal operators shut down.
