The North Cascades National Park Complex is a protected mountain area in northern Washington State, USA, that includes North Cascades National Park and the Ross Lake and Lake Chelan National Recreation Areas. The park unit was created by Congress in 1968 and is noted for its rugged alpine terrain and extensive glaciation.

The complex offers alpine hiking, mountaineering, backcountry camping and scenic driving; the North Cascades Highway (State Route 20) provides the principal paved approach. Numerous trailheads, boat access points and maintained campgrounds provide entry to steep valleys, alpine meadows and glacier-fed rivers.

Congress established the national park in 1968; the adjacent recreation areas were incorporated into the complex to provide a mix of wilderness protection and managed recreation. Management by the National Park Service emphasizes wilderness preservation alongside day-use and water-access facilities.

Geographically the complex spans the northern Cascade Range in Washington, extending close to the Canada-US border and occupying a band east of the Puget Sound lowlands. Access is possible from western points such as the Skagit Valley and from eastern approaches via communities along the Methow and Chelan corridors.

  • Glaciers: Contains more than 300 glaciers, making it one of the most heavily glaciated areas in the contiguous United States.
  • Primary access: State Route 20, the North Cascades Highway, provides the primary paved access and is typically open only in the warmer months, with higher-elevation trails holding snow longer.
