The Capitol sits in downtown Raleigh. From the Raleigh Union Station/Amtrak area it’s a 10-15 minute walk (0.6 mile) west along Edenton and Cabarrus Streets. Several GoRaleigh bus routes stop nearby; parking is available on adjacent streets and municipal lots. The nearest landmark is the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences (about a 5-7 minute walk).

- Arrive just after the morning opening to see light flood the rotunda and avoid school groups.
- Use the Edenton Street entrance and linger on the worn northeast exterior steps where decades of handrails have polished the stone.
- Ask the attendant about the 1865 Civil War-era anecdotes - the building was spared major damage and has militia graffiti in archival records that rarely make it into brochures.
