Norman Bird Sanctuary is a 325-acre nature preserve and birdwatching reserve in Middletown, Rhode Island, founded in 1949. It was created to protect habitat and provide public access for nature study.

The sanctuary features a network of trails totaling about 7 miles that traverse woodlands, open fields and coastal bluffs, used extensively for birdwatching and nature walks. Habitats include coastal cliff and shore, marshy lowlands and upland forest, which together attract migratory songbirds and raptors throughout the year.

The site was established when Mabel Norman bequeathed her estate for conservation and public use; subsequent land acquisitions enlarged the preserve to its current area. The sanctuary operates a visitor centre and runs seasonal guided walks and educational programs.

Located on Aquidneck Island in the town of Middletown, the sanctuary lies a short drive south of the city of Newport and occupies coastal ground with clifftop views over Narragansett Bay.

  • Size: Covers about 325 acres of preserved habitat on Aquidneck Island, suitable for year-round birdwatching and walking.
