Noorderkerk is a 17th-century Protestant church in the Jordaan district of Amsterdam, built during the city’s Dutch Golden Age. Designed in a central-plan style, it is a characteristic example of Amsterdam’s period church architecture.
The building faces the Noordermarkt square and has been used historically for worship and civic gatherings; its exterior and interior retain period architectural details. Today the area around the church remains active with markets and community events.
The church was designed by Hendrick de Keyser and completed by his son Pieter de Keyser in the early 1620s as part of Amsterdam’s expansion into the Jordaan neighbourhood. It has served the local congregation and the neighbourhood since that time.
Noorderkerk stands on Noordermarkt in the Jordaan, a short walk from Amsterdam’s Anne Frank House and central canal belt.

Noorderkerk sits on the Noordermarkt in Amsterdam’s Jordaan neighborhood, just off Prinsengracht. It is about a 10-15 minute walk west from Amsterdam Centraal station and a short walk from the Anne Frank House/Prinsengracht area.
The area is also served by Amsterdam’s tram and bus network-get off at stops for the Jordaan/Noordermarkt or Westerkerk and walk a few minutes to the square. Once in the Jordaan the church and market are immediately visible from the main canals.

- Visit on a Saturday morning to combine a quick look inside Noorderkerk with the lively Noordermarkt flea and organic markets held on the square.
- Enter from the Noordermarkt side so you can immediately join the market atmosphere; weekday visits are much quieter if you prefer to see the interior without market crowds.
- Check service and concert schedules before you go-parts of the church interior are sometimes closed to tourists during events, and arriving outside service times avoids disappointment.
