Palace Working Dutch royal palace in The Hague
One of the Dutch monarch’s three official palaces in The Hague; visitors photograph the façade, watch occasional guard ceremonies, and browse nearby Noordeinde street’s galleries and tailored shops.
Noordeinde Palace is a royal palace on Noordeinde in The Hague, South Holland, and serves as one of the official palaces of the Dutch monarchy and the working palace of the reigning monarch. The building has origins as a city mansion dating back several centuries and forms part of the government and diplomatic quarter of The Hague.
The palace’s formal façade and central courtyard are visible from the street and attract attention for their historic architecture and ceremonial use. Behind the palace the small Paleistuin garden is open to the public and is the most accessible part of the palace grounds for visitors.
Originally a late-medieval or early-modern city residence, the building passed into the possession of the House of Orange-Nassau and was adapted over time for royal and state functions. It has been used for official receptions and as the monarch’s workplace while other palaces serve as residences.
Located on Noordeinde in central The Hague, the palace lies within the city’s governmental district close to the Binnenhof and other state institutions.
- Royal workplace: Functions as the official workplace of the Dutch monarch rather than a full-time royal residence, so public access to the interior is limited and the exterior and garden are the usual viewing points.
- Public garden access: The small palace garden is accessible to visitors and provides a quiet vantage point close to the palace façade and surrounding government buildings.
